24 Years Old Man-Proof Why Smoking Cigarette is not a Sin

24 Years Old Man-Proof Why Smoking Cigarette is not a Sin
“To my Boss, smoking is not a sin neither do I count it as a sin. So why is everybody saying it is a sin? Did God say we should condemn others for smoking?”
Stop living in confusion and embrace the natural law that smoking cigarette is never a sin. Most of the articles I have read on the internet pointed to the false natural law that smoking is a sin, hated by God. But, is not because God didn’t say or write it down when He gave His ten commandment.

Smoking Cigarette is not a Sin

I went to Ikeja City Mall (Lagos, Western Region of Nigeria) to get my boss some pack of cigarette, right there in front of a cigarette show-glass; I centred my eyes on a printed labelled on the pack. The labelled printed in Sans-Serif font, Bold and about 30 Font size.

“Minister of health advice that smokers are liable to die young”

I wasn't happy with that label, imagine my forty-years-old boss dying young, how will the relatives, friends, and co-staff at work feel?

Got to work late my boss asks, “What kept you so long”, I was dumb just like a lamb before a slaughter. I knew I took much of my time surfing the internet for a good reason why smokers are liable to die young. “Where is my package?” he asked. I stretched out to hand him the package but he noticed something strange, he called me to his office.

He offered me a seat and said to me again, “What kept you so long, I know you will not lie to me, so tell me” his voice was as calm as the river bank. “The labelled kept me so long” I replied.

I handed him the package and he opens it, brought out the pack of cigarette and burst into laughter. I seem not to understand he is laughing neither do I know what he is thinking in his mind.
“Young pastor, you’ve got another topic today, huh? So tell me, is smoking a sin? Show me where it is written…I know you will not condemn me with your reasons as most people do?” He said.
While holding the pack of cigarette in his hand, then I remember the disadvantages of smoking cigarette that I surfed on the internet. They are;

Disadvantages Of Smoking

Eyes

It is proven that different chemicals in tobacco can cause damage to the macula, which represents the most sensitive part of the retina. The tiny blood vessels can burst through the macula, leading to irreversible damage. Smoking also causes morphological and functional changes to the lens and retina due to its atherosclerotic and thrombotic effects on the ocular capillaries.

Digestive system

Smoking is a risk factor for all cancers associated with the larynx, oral cavity and oesophagus. There is no doubt that heavy smokers have laryngeal cancer mortality risks 20 to 30 times greater than non-smokers.

Heart and circulation

The two main effects smoking has on the heart and circulation are:
  • An increase in your heartbeat rate
  • A sharp rise in blood pressure
This happens because nicotine attacks the nerves directly, causing the heart the rate of rising and blood vessels to constrict. Since smokers have lungs filled with those dangerous fumes, the heart has to pump harder to get enough oxygen to the rest of the body. Smoking can also increase cholesterol and fibrinogen levels in the blood. The heart and circulation diseases caused by smoking include:
  • Coronary heart disease (CHD)
  • An aneurysm
  • Peripheral vascular disease (PVD)
  • Stroke

Lungs

There is no doubt that the tar content of the cigarette smoke directly damages the cells in the airways of the lung. This can eventually cause cancer of the lung or larynx. It can also lead to chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Several factors are contributing to lung cancer:
  • The daily dose of tobacco
  • The duration of regular smoking and
  • The form in which tobacco is smoked

Brain

Smoking is linked to the buildup of fatty substances in the carotid artery, the main neck artery supplying blood to the brain, which represents one of the most important factors for developing a stroke.

Other dangerous properties of tobacco smoke:

  • Nicotine raises blood pressure.
  • Carbon monoxide reduces the amount of oxygen blood can carry to the brain.
  • Cigarette smoke makes the blood thicker and more likely to clot

Digestive system

Smoking has been shown to have harmful effects on all parts of the digestive system, contributing to the development of many diseases such as:

Heartburn

  • Peptic ulcers
  • Crohn's disease
  • Gallstones
  • Stomach cancer
  • Liver and pancreas
  • Almost half of all the bladder and kidney cancers in men are caused by smoking.

Skin and hair

Smoking can damage the skin, mainly the substance called collagen which keeps the skin elastic. Smokers get deeper wrinkles all over their faces because nicotine constricts the tiny capillaries that nourish the skin. Not only that, but smokers are also prone to premature thinning and greying of the hair.

Bone and muscles

It is proven that tobacco smoke chemicals are poisons that inhibit the development of new tissue cells. The tissue of smokers does not get an adequate blood supply to promote healing, thus smokers are at a much higher risk of developing osteoporosis.

Bringing it home to Christianity way. The Holy Bible, in the New Testament, writes that the human body is the Temple of God, and God would not like us to get it polluted.

So, therefore, if smoking cigarette demerits would cause us harm by destroying our body then we must picture it as thus, smoking cigarettes destroys God’s temple.

THE CONCLUSION

  • Smoking cigarette destroys the body.
  • The body is the temple of God.
  • Smoking cigarette destroy the temple of God.
  • God is not happy with those that destroy their body.
  • If God is not happy towards you, it means you are yet to be His.
  • If you failed to be His, you might end it on the other side of Him.
  • Therefore, smoking a cigarette is a sin.
